Orkut has been hacked and flooded with Bom Sabado worm, this is another hack which exploited XSS(Cross site scripting)

The word "Bom Sabado" means "Good Saturday" in Portuguese, which is the also the official language of Brazil, one of the last remaining Orkut bastions in the world.

The worm seems to be posting scraps with content "Bom Sabado" and it also include adding affected users to new Orkut groups.

Such XSS attack is not new to orkut and it has been done past too.

As stated by mashable on their post

A new Twitter security flaw has been widely exploited on thousands of Twitter accounts, redirecting users to third-party websites without their consent.

The bug is particularly nasty because it works on mouseover only, meaning pop-ups and third-party websites can open even if you just move your mouse over the offending link.

The flaw uses a JavaScript function called onMouseOver which creates an event when the mouse is passed over a chunk of text. We’ve seen the flaw being abused to launch simple pop-up windows, redirect users elsewhere (including porn sites), and we’ve also seen it used in combination with blocks of color, covering the true “intention” of the tweet.

Just browsing through my emails I noticed Try Gmail Priority Inbox on top right hand corner just after my user id. Out of curiosity I clicked on it and I got to see this video

I clicked on try and what I saw after that was just fantastic, Gmail rightly classified my mails and gave me an option to make changes to it. Once I was done it took me to priority inbox and I was amazed to see the way mails were arranged. Everything was neatly arranged in three sections important unread, starred and others.

In others section important conversations were marked as “this conversation contains an important message that is archived.”

At the bottom there were two icons – and plus to make email’s important & not important.

Over all I am impressed by this feature and ability to classify mail, just loved it.

I can some up my experiences with Atlassian jira plugin development in five points. These are listed below in order you may encountered them or in order you may realize them

1. Setting up SDK with eclipse can get painful

2. Maven is pain in ass at times

3. Documentation is good

4. Tutorials are far & few and no elaborate examples available

5. Examples for modules types added in JIRA 4.0 missing

I would elaborate on these points some other day, stay tuned for more updates on days to come.

PS: Those days might not come

Twitter was trying to do away with basic authentication from quite a long time and Twitter’s Douglas Bowman confirms this with a tweet today: “Basic Auth for Twitter is almost history. Rate limits are down to 15 requests/hour, and will be 0 by tomorrow.“

As per the twitter documentation the plan to shutdown basic auth was as follows

beginning on August 17th, 2010, basic auth rate limits will decrease by 15 requests/hour on each week day;

on August 19th, 2010 at 5pm PDT, basic auth will be shut off temporarily for 10 minutes;

on August 23rd, 2010 at 8am PDT, basic auth will be shut off temporarily for 10 minutes;

on August 26rd, 2010 at 5pm PDT, basic auth will be shut off temporarily for 10 minutes; and

on August 31st, 2010 at 8am PDT, all basic auth requests will be served with a HTTP 401 error code.

Some time back I had written simple python script to do some nifty little stuff using basic authentication of twitter and as I write this article we are moving closer to end of basic authentication. I will update my status using that script for the last time today.

Yeah you read me right I am getting this strong feeling that time is not far when linkedin will become another social network, adding comment to status update was pathetic in itself and recently they added like this update what a crap, I don’t want to see same crappy discussions and likes on linkedin I want things which makes business sense.

I understand that it makes hell lot of business sense but than what happens to your USP which always said a professional network.

I would like to make a humble request to founders of linkedin, please stop aping Facebook and understand the difference between quality and quantity, I understand such decisions are tough ones from business perspective but may be you need to think of some innovative ways to get those things in place.
